Watton Street high-rise plan

Watton Street is set to get another high-rise building.

Plans have been lodged for a five-storey block with 18 apartments, ground floor retail, a permit for the sale and consumption of liquor, a basement carpark and rooftop terrace on a vacant block of land at 100 Watton Street, located next door to diner Truck Stop Deluxe.

The plans were first lodged in November 2016 but have since been updated and are out for community consultation.

A decision on the $3 million development is expected to be made in coming months, but at this stage it has yet to be decided whether the matter will go before a council meeting.

The apartment block is one of a number of high-rises under construction or on the cards for Werribee’s CBD. The $47 million 10-storey Edge One apartment block, which overlooks Wyndham Park and the Werribee River, is currently selling 100 apartments with one, two and three bedrooms off the plan.

The development is stage one of the overall RiverEdge development which also includes plans for a new 8300-square-metre Wyndham city community learning hub over five levels and another 200-plus apartments.

Meanwhile, construction is expected to start in coming months on Werribee’s tallest development, the $49.5 million 12-storey hotel, education precinct and carpark development on the corner of Synnot Street and Duncans Road.

In June last year, Wyndham council approved plans for a $15 million 10-storey mixed-use apartment block along Watton Street, next door to the Bridge Hotel.
