It is alleged a Holden Astra hatchback collided into the rear of a Melbourne-bound vehicle travelling along the Princes Highway about 5.50am.

The driver of the Holden allegedly fled the scene and was arrested a short time later, after police chased him on foot along the side of the freeway.
A 34-year-old Hamlyn Heights man has been charged with a range of offences including reckless conduct endangering life, careless driving, drive manner dangerous, speeding, failing to stop after a collision, failing to render assistance after a collision, unlicensed driving and refusing to undergo a preliminary oral fluid test.
He has been bailed to appear at Werribee Magistrates Court on January 9 next year.
