Not too late to prepare for Rotary fun run

Like most people, Maurita Rahn is keen to improve her fitness.

The Tarneit resident has signed up to tackle the 10-kilometre course in next month’s Wyndham Rotary Fun Run, which will start at Chirnside Park and wind along the Werribee River Trail.

Ms Rahn said she was training three times a week in preparation for the February 28 event and is aiming to do the entire run without stopping.

“I thought if I enrolled early, then I would train,” she said.

Ms Rahn received an added incentive to pound the pavement last week when she won a free pair of runners from one of the fun run’s sponsors, Mizuno.

Fun run organiser David Lane said four more pairs of runners were on offer as spot prizes for entrants. Keen runners can sign up for five-kilometre or 10-kilometre courses, while for those looking for a more leisurely outing, there are four-kilometre and eight-kilometre walking tracks.

The fun run is one of Wyndham Rotary’s biggest fundraisers and has raised more than $60,000 for the Royal Children Hospital’s Good Friday Appeal in the past nine years.

Max Coster, of Wyndham Rotary, said the club was expecting more than 1000 people to take part.
