Trio gets with the recording program

A trio of talented students from a Hoppers Crossing school have recorded a song at Mushroom studios.

Grange P-12 College students Jemma, Doris and Samuel – along with their friend, Jae, who attends another school – were selected to record their song after participating in a school holiday program run by the Department of Education and Training.

Doris, Jemma, Jae and Samuel formed a music group called DJJS, with the girls as singers and the boys as rappers.

Jemma said mentors helped the students to develop their songwriting and music skills during the program.

“We had to create a song in a group,” she said.

“We also learned DJ’ing skills along the way and performed at the end,” she said.

Afterwards, some of the student groups were selected to record their songs at the Mushroom studios in Port Melbourne.

“We got to use a professional studio and it was really fun to work in that kind of environment,” Jemma said.

While in the studio, they were filmed for a behind-the-scenes video set to be released on YouTube. In addition, their song will be made available on Spotify and iTunes.

Doris said she would like to pursue a career in the performing arts.

“I do singing for fun, but I like acting and my main aim is to be an actress,” she said.

Samuel, a self-taught rapper, said he would like to become a professional rapper.
