Two Wyndham suburbs have been named among the nation’s top three online shopping locations, for six months of this year.

Australia Post last week released the top 10 national online shopping locations, by parcel volume, for March to August.

Point Cook placed first on the list, with Cranbourne second and Hoppers Crossing third.

Australia Post said that online shopping growth in Victoria has risen 170 per cent year-on-year, compared to a growth rate of 85 per cent across the country.

Australia Post community and consumer executive general manager, Nicole Sheffield, described Victoria as “Australia’s online shopping capital”.

“Point Cook in Melbourne’s west holds the number one spot, but suburbs like Craigieburn and Doreen in the outer-north made the top five list for the first time last month,” said Ms Sheffield.

“What’s even more interesting is in 2019, just four Victorian postcodes made it into Australia’s top 10 online shopping locations; Victorian postcodes now hold six of those spots for the six months from March-August this year.

“In July and August more than a third of all Australian online purchases were made in Victoria, which speaks to the impact stage four restrictions have had on the local retail landscape.”

Ms Sheffield said that between March and August this year, more than 8.1 million Australian households shopped online.

In August, the popular items among online shoppers included food and liquor along with health, beauty, home and garden products.
