Horse thefts leave owners shattered

Tommy is Julie McColl’s best mate.

After a car accident that left her with an acquired brain injury 20 years ago, it was Tommy who helped Ms McColl adjust.

But the pony has been stolen from a property at Werribee South.

“It’s so hard without him,” a tearful Ms McColl told Star Weekly.

“I just can’t understand why somebody would take him.

“I was a medical secretary before the accident, but when it happened I thought ‘what am I going to do with my life? What quality of life do I have left?’

“I got Tommy, and he helped me adjust.”

Ms McColl is unsure when Tommy was taken from the Aviation Road property, but believes it was around Christmas.

“I’m feeling very guilty. I hadn’t been down to see him as much as I should’ve. If we do find him, I’ll never let him go again,” she said. “Whoever has taken my pony, please bring him back. I’m lying awake at night every night asking why you took him. How did you take him?

“He is so much more to me than just a pet. He is priceless.”

In a separate incident, two horses were stolen from a Wyndham Vale property last month.

The owner says the horses had helped her through her battle with depression following the death of her partner, and she, also, is desperate to have her animals returned.

Werribee Police’s Constable Andrew Minichiello said police are investigating the disappearance of Ms McColl’s horse.
