Teens go a cut above

These cousins will be sporting a new ‘do’ next month, and it’s all in the name of charity.

Natalie Pyke, 17, and Olivia Iavasile, 15, will each cut 35 centimetres off their long tresses and donate the hair to children’s charity Variety, who will use it to make wigs for those undergoing cancer treatment.

The pair also want to raise $5000 for the charity.

The MacKillop College students say the passing of their grandfather John Casaccio, who suffered with lung cancer, spurred them on to help others.

“Our nonno died from cancer, and we want to try and help people who are also suffering,” Olivia said.

Natalie added: “By us donating our hair, children who no longer have hair [because of cancer treatment] get the opportunity to have a wig provided by us.”

The girls will be cutting their hair at the Italian Sports Club’s Chevron Market on April 30.
