Teen arrested after alleged aggravated burglary with axe

By Simone Fox Koob, The Age

Police have fired a shot during the arrest of a 14-year-old boy, who allegedly carried out an aggravated burglary with an axe in Point Cook.

Residents of a home at La Coruna Gardens alerted police when an intruder entered the house with an axe about 3.40am.

A 40-year-old male resident confronted the boy, and received a minor cut to his arm. He was treated at the scene.

Shortly after, the 14-year-old from Kew was arrested nearby. He is currently assisting police with their enquiries, and no charges have been laid.

A police officer discharged a firearm as they attempted to arrest the boy.

“As per standard procedure, when an officer discharges their firearm, Professional Standard Command will investigate,” said a police spokeswoman.
