Woodville Primary School pupils embraced Japanese culture, arts and food last week in a celebration of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Pupils at the Hoppers Crossing school participated in a range of tasks and festivities organised by LOTE teacher Miyuki Wirth.

The children enjoyed making their own cherry blossoms, Pokemon balls, traditional Kendama toys and art depicting Ochiba koi fish. A workshop was based around the art of Katsushika Hokusai, who painted the famous

Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.

The pupils also made their own Pokemon-like creatures out of fallen leaves, ate Japanese food and watched guest performers play Wadaiko – Japanese drums.
