State Budget: Wyndham big ticket items

A new technical college in Werribee and a new primary school for Tarneit West are the big ticket items for Wyndham residents in this year’s state budget.

Budget papers released this afternoon reveal the state government will invest more than $5.2 million into a new primary school in Tarneit West.

Wyndham will also be home to one of 10 new technical schools, to be built at the Victoria University Werribee campus. The courses will designed by TAFEs, universities, local businesses and industry professionals.

Funding to existing schools

Further funding has been allocated for the modernisation and upgrade of Alamanda K-9 College in Point Cook ($1 million), Werribee Secondary College ($3 million), and Truganina P-9 ($1.5 million).

The second stage of Tarneit Secondary College is receiving $4.6 million, and the final stage of the new Manor Lakes P-12 College will receive $379,000 as part of a $10.9 million investment.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas said the completion of the school would help meet the needs of the rapidly growing community.

Police

The new multi-disciplinary centre planned for Wyndham will also receive a $2.9 million. The centre, announced at the end of 2014, will bring together Victoria Police, child protection and sexual assault counselling services under the one roof in Wyndham.

Market garden water

Werribee South market gardeners will this year benefit from a $1.1 million investment in upgraded water infrastructure, modernising the decrepit channels that exist.

Mercy Hospital expansion

Werribee Mercy’s expansion will also continue, with the State Government offering up a further $12.9 million for the upgrades.

Dohertys Road upgrade

Cash is also being splashed across Wyndham roads, with Dohertys Road, between Fitzgerald Road and Grieve Parade in Laverton North set to be duplicated, increasing the number of lanes to four.

The $52 million upgrade will also include a new bridge over the Princes Freeway, two new signalised intersections, three new roundabouts, and a 2.3 km pedestrian and bicycle path along the south side of Dohertys Road.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas said the project would not only improve travel times, but also reduce the risk and severity of crashes along the road.
