Security upgrade for Werribee Magistrates’ Court

Werribee Magistrates’ Court is undergoing a revamp.

The court, built in 1980, is getting “minor upgrades” to its offices and a reconfiguration of entry to the building.

As a result, the main Duncans Road entrance has been closed during construction, with visitors being asked to enter the court building from Salisbury Street.

A spokeswoman said the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria had received funding to expand specialist family violence services and improve safety and security at a range of court locations, including Werribee.

The Geelong and Sunshine magistrates’ courts are receiving similar upgrades.

The spokeswoman did not specify how much the works would cost.

“It is anticipated that the works will be completed in December,” she said.

Meanwhile, western suburbs sexual assault victims will soon have a new support hub in Wyndham.

The state government is in the process of establishing a multi-disciplinary centre modelled on facilities in Geelong, Mildura, Seaford, Dandenong and Bendigo.

This year’s state budget included $2.9 million for the Wyndham hub.

The state government has not revealed when the centre will open.
