Residents have been warned to prepare for delays as works on the $5 million rehabilitation of Sayers Road are set to commence.

Council awarded the contract to Negri Contractors during a council meeting on Tuesday, May 24, and said the rehabilitation between Tarneit Road and Reflections Boulevard will be one of their largest road projects this year.

“We ask residents to plan ahead and allow for traffic delays in the area. There will be highly visible signage marking detours throughout the works area,” Mayor Peter Maynard said.

“We’ll be working closely with our contractor to make sure your journey is as safe and hassle-free as possible, but please plan ahead and be patient while these important works are being carried out.”

The project will involve the removal, recycling and replacement of failing road pavement, new asphalt surfacing, localised kerb and channel repair and minor drainage repairs.

“The rehabilitation works will make Sayers Road smoother, safer and more enjoyable for motorists to use,” Cr Maynard said.

The upgrades will be undertaken in several stages and traffic will be switched onto opposite carriageways with one lane in each direction.

Intersections at Sandleford Way, Penrose Promenade, Crossway Avenue and Reflections Boulevard will be closed at different points during the rehabilitation period but detours will be in place.

Council said construction is expected to begin in June and will conclude in November and the upgrades will mostly take place during standard operating hours.

Wyndham council recently completed a $5 million rehabilitation of Sneydes Road as part of its $12 million road reconstruction and resurfacing program.
