The end of traffic snarls along Tarneit Road could be in sight with lights and signals expected to be fully operational within the next fortnight.
The $6 million project – which included an extra lane in each direction between Hogans Road and Caraleena Drive, traffic lights at the Good News Lutheran College entrance, and a doubling in the size of the Tarneit and Hogans roads intersection – was originally slated to be finished by October 2017, and has since missed a number of revised deadlines.
Design changes to avoid disrupting water, gas, electricity and drainage systems and delays with VicRoads and Powercor in turning on the lights have been among the reasons for the 2.5-year hold-up on the project.
Wyndham mayor Mia Shaw said a “temporary arrangement” had been made to power some of the lights and the traffic signals at the intersection of Tarneit and Hogans roads.
“The actual roadworks have been completed, however we are waiting on the finalisation of the street lighting and signals to be completed,” Cr Shaw posted on Facebook.
Council operations director Stephen Thorpe said VicRoads would test the hardware and software on the traffic lights and, if this is successful, will switch them on by mid-April.
