Simon Gladman was an incredibly intelligent individual, a people person who would always lend a hand and would be happy to provide support and advice.
He was also dependable and very compassionate, according to his good friend Trevor Weston.
“I’ve known Simon, for not quite 20 years, through the fire brigade. I first meet him when were both members at Werribee, and came across to Wyndham Vale, where he was an officer,“ Mr Weston said.
Mr Gladman death last November was “a huge loss“ to the Wyndham community, and Mr Weston is encouraging people to attend a a T20 cricket match and memorial service to be held in celebration and remembrance of Mr Gladman’s life.
“[The memorial] sort of came to life over a beer, we had some mutual friends who played cricket with Simon and they said ’hey, let’s do something between the two organisations that were a huge part of Simon’s life’,“ Mr Weston said.
“I think it’s a nice opportunity to be able to remember Simon, and a whole group of people coming together to do that.
“One of the things that struck me…was the reach the he had in the community, there are people all across Werribee who you wouldn’t think would know Simon, who came forward on the day and continue to come forward to share stories about him.
“It’s a huge testament to who he was.“
Bellbridge Cricket Club have also designed a t-shirt for the game, where they will play against Wyndham Vale Fire Brigade on Saturday, February 25, at Mossfiel Reserve.
