It’s the breast cancer fundraiser that packs a little punch.
Members at Hoppers Crossing gym Punching Kilos Boxing and Fitness will pull on the boxing gloves from 4pm on June 25 and be hitting the punching bag for 24 hours to raise money for the Cancer Council.
Dale Ludolff, who runs the gym with his wife Karen, said participants planned to share the load by taking to the bag in 30-minute shifts, which is the equivalent of being in a 10-round fight.
The day-long fundraiser will also include exhibition sparring sessions in the gym’s boxing ring, pad-work demonstrations and raffles of boxing memorabilia.
“We haven’t seen it done before,” Mr Ludolff said.
“Boxing has a bad reputation, but it’s a great sport and has helped a lot of people out in life.”
Mr Ludolff said there was a history of breast cancer in his family, with both his aunt and grandmother beating the disease.
Meanwhile, another aunt who tested positive to the BRCA gene, had a preventative mastectomy and hysterectomy.
Mr Ludolff said he was keen to raise $10,000 through this event, with all proceeds going to the Cancer Council.
