Police are investigating a series of bicycle thefts from stores across Melbourne and Geelong, including Hoppers Crossing.

Police said they have identified seven incidents in which a man has attended a cycling store, removed a bicycle and fled outside to a waiting white Mazda ute, driven by an accomplice.

The thefts, which police believe are linked, took place between October 28 and November 6.

One of the incidents took place at a store on Old Geelong Road, Hoppers Crossing on October 28, while the others were in South Melbourne, Brunswick East, Keilor Park, Flemington (attempted theft), Pascoe Vale and Grovedale.

Sergeant Tony French told radio station 3AW the stolen bikes were valued between $1500 and $5500 each.

He said that before stealing the bikes, the thieves would sometimes speak to staff at the bicycle stores.

Police have released CCTV images of two men they believe could assist with their inquiries.

The first man is of either Middle Eastern or Pacific Islander appearance, about 185cm tall with a pot belly.

He often wears an orange high-visibility top, a hat and sunglasses.
