Point Cook is getting its own pop-up park this week.
Volunteers worked around the clock over the weekend to set up the temporary installation at the Point Cook Town Centre’s restaurant precinct along Murnong Street, with a program of events to begin today (Wednesday) and run until April 15.
The park includes synthetic turf and furniture from the Station Place pop-up park in Werribee.
Live music, yoga for kids and adults, cinema screenings, arts and crafts and a teddy bear’s picnic will feature in coming weeks, with more events to be added to the program.
Point Cook Action Group’s Susan McIntyre, who was one of the driving forces behind the project, thanked all the volunteers, Stockland Point Cook, Wyndham council and The Neighbourhood Project for helping to bring the park to life.
“It’s looking so good,” she said.
“It’s not a static program – we’ve got loads more things happening in the background that we’re waiting to add to the program.
“On Sunday, we had over 60 volunteers from different community groups [helping to set up].”
Ms McIntyre has been working since June last year to source funding for the project, and was successful in getting a grant from The Neighbourhood Project to move the park from an idea to reality.
