When young Will Lord, son of the caretaker at the Point Cook Flying Corps base, embarked on what promised to be the adventure of a lifetime in 1915, his family was thrown into a series of events that prove truth is stranger than fiction.
If you’re wondering what these strange events were, you’ll have to join cultural historian Dr Steve Campbell-Wright for his latest talk on the history of RAAF Point Cook Air Force base this Wednesday night.
A free online event hosted by Wyndham City Libraries, ‘The Caretaker’s Family – service and sacrifice at RAAF Point Cook during World War I” will be held from 7 to 8pm on Wednesday November 8.
A 35 year RAAF veteran turned historian and author, Dr Campbell-Wright is one of the foremost experts on Point Cook’s air force base, having published ‘An Interesting Point: A History of Military Aviation at Point Cook’ in 2014.
The talk is open to all adults and while free of charge, bookings are essential.
