A Manor Lakes woman has thanked the people who helped out after her dog was attacked and badly injured last month.

Satinder said her husband was walking their two-year-old labrador, Shiney, near the corner of Mayesbrook Road and Kinglake Drive on October 23 when the attack occurred about 11.30am.

Satinder said a large dog, which appeared to be on the loose, ran up to Shiney and locked its jaw around him, shaking him and dragging him across the road – a distance of about 15 metres.

Satinder said her husband tried to rescue Shiney, as passersby and residents came out of their houses to help.

A woman threw food at the other dog to distract it, a couple intervened in the attack and another woman stopped traffic on the road.

Motorists also exited their cars to assist. Someone called the owner of the attacking dog, after finding contact details on its collar.

Satinder said when she ran out of their house to the scene she was “crying uncontrollably” and two neighbours offered her water and tissues.

“I really can’t thank people enough who helped us in that tragic moment,” Satinder said.

Shiney was rushed to the vet following the attack, and has since undergone several surgeries for his injuries.

Satinder said Shiney’s personality has changed since the attack and he has become “a very scared dog”.

The owner of the attacking dog paid for Shiney’s first vet consultation and surgery, but has not paid for the second operation or ongoing treatment.

Satinder said she and her husband did not want the attacking dog put down, but were worried what could happen if the dog escapes from its yard. They have reported the matter to Wyndham council.

Wyndham council’s director of city operations, Stephen Thorpe, said: “The matter is currently under investigation and all parties are co-operating.”

Satinder has requested that anyone who helped her and her husband after Shiney’s attack to contact Star Weekly at acapone@starweekly.com.au so she can personally thank you.
