Point Cook residents, take note: Palmers Road could be in line for yet another upgrade.
VicRoads is conducting an online survey about drivers’ experiences along the Palmers and Dunnings roads corridor, and will use the findings to present a business case to the state government next month for duplication of Palmers Road to the bridge leading to the Princes Freeway.
VicRoads metro north-west regional director Vince Punaro said more than 1800 people had responded to the survey so far and more than 600 comments had been received on social media.
“With Wyndham’s rapid population growth, we understand that road congestion is a major source of frustration for residents,” he said.
“We continue to work closely with the government and Wyndham City council on ways we can ease this congestion and improve the city’s road network.”
At capacity
Wyndham councillor and transport portfolio-holder Glenn Goodfellow welcomed the news.
“That road is at, and has been, above capacity for years,” he said.
“This duplication is needed because it will actually move traffic. But then we need to also remove the bottleneck for cars to get onto the freeway.”
Meanwhile, construction will start in August on a $6.75 million upgrade of Palmers Road that will add a new lane for bus and multi-occupancy vehicles northbound between Dunnings Road and Skeleton Creek.
The project, co-funded by Wyndham council and the state government, will also adjust the traffic lights at the Palmers-Dunnings roads intersection to give priority to buses and extend an existing shared user path to the west of Skeleton Creek to improve access and better connection to Williams Landing train station.
Mr Punaro said the upgrade was expected to be completed by mid-2017.
