Players from the Werribee Hockey Club are tickled pink to show their support for the Breast Cancer Network Australia.
The club’s players will don pink socks during their games on June 2, as part of the network’s Pink Sports Day campaign.
BCNA chief executive Kirsten Pilatti said the campaign aimed to support people with breast cancer, their friends and family.
She said about 18,235 Australians, including 148 men, would be diagnosed with breast cancer during 2018.
“We know that a breast cancer diagnosis doesn’t just affect the person with the disease – it has a ripple effect on their family, friends and wider community,” Ms Pilatti said.
“Sport is at the heart of Australian communities, and is a way for people to come together and celebrate the good times and support each other through the hard times.”
The BCNA is calling on all Australian sports clubs to join in the Pink Sports Day campaign.
As part of the campaign, clubs are also encouraged to host a sausage sizzle, raffle or other fundraising event.
Last year, more than 1000 Australian sports clubs raised $400,000 for BCNA.
This year, the network is hoping the campaign will raise $550,000.
