A Werribee-based calisthenics club is celebrating after winning two categories at the state championships.

BeeJays Calisthenics Club principal coach Belinda Dwyer said the intermediate and senior teams won their divisions at the Calisthenics Victoria Inc (CVI) competition, which was held in Bendigo last month.

“The girls and coaches were so excited,” she said. “All of the hard work and dedication had finally paid off – there was cheering, crying and hugs all around.

“Some of the girls have been doing calisthenics since they were in nappies and have never won CVI state championships, before so it has been a long time coming for them. They have worked so hard … to see their work be rewarded and to see them improve and enjoy their calisthenics is all that I ever wanted for the club.“

Ms Dwyer said the club’s intermediate team had won four out of five competitions it competed in between August and October this year, and placed runner-up in the other contest.

The senior team came first in three out of five competitions it performed in.

Ms Dwyer said the club had about 90 members.

“Our youngest has only just turned three this week and our eldest is in her late 40s,” she said. “We are open to everyone.”
