New kindergarten name

Wyndham council has approved the name “Middleton Drive Kindergarten” for a temporary kindergarten to be located at 1 Middleton Drive, Point Cook.

The name will be submitted to Geographic Names Victoria (GNV) to continue with the formal naming process that includes a 30-day community engagement period.

In August, the state government announced funding through the Building Blocks Partnership Agreement to deliver a new temporary two-room modular kindergarten on Wyndham council land adjacent to the tennis courts at Saltwater Reserve, Point Cook.

This temporary kindergarten will open in 2022 to meet an anticipated shortfall in kindergarten places within the Point Cook area for a period of up to five years.

The kindergarten has been added to the council’s kindergarten central enrolment for 2022 and will offer two four-year-old groups for 15 hours per week and two three-year-old groups for five hours per week.

While the temporary kindergarten is located at Saltwater Reserve, there is already a Saltwater Kindergarten located at the Saltwater Community Centre, so a name is required that distinguishes it from this existing kindergarten.

The new kindergarten will be located near the corner of Middleton Drive and Saltwater Promenade.

The main entrance will be accessed via footpath from Middleton Drive which runs alongside the dog park and via the carpark adjacent to the tennis pavilion which is accessed from Saltwater Promenade – therefore the kindergarten has been given the address of 1 Middleton Drive and therefore it is proposed that it be named after the street as “Middleton Drive Kindergarten”.

Signage identifying the kindergarten will be located on Middleton Drive and directional signage will be installed on Saltwater Promenade for carpark access.
