MY WYNDHAM: Toni Strebs

When she was seven years old, Toni Strebs’ family moved to Wyndham. As an adult, she is now building a home in the New Jubilee estate in Wyndham Vale. Every week day morning, Ms Strebs joins thousands of other commuters  when she catches a train from Wyndham Vale to Melbourne. Ms Strebs works in the city, as a team leader of customer service at the Centre for Adult Education. She is also studying a dual Certificate IV in Booking and Accounting. The busy young woman also trains at Wyndham Mixed Martial Arts up to four times a week, doing a mix of Muay Tai, boxing and kickboxing.

You pretty much grew up in Wyndham, but what made you want to live here as an adult?

I have always lived here but the reason I wish to stay is because everything here is so convenient.

My family is here, local shops are around every corner; Werribee Plaza for when you want to shop, a variety of schools and variety of people.

This place has always been home, even with every change, and it will continue to be my home for the foreseeable future.

Is there anything you would change about the area, if you could?

Some of the lighting in the older streets, I like to walk my puppy around the area and some of the streets are very dark.

Do you have a favourite place to get coffee or eat a meal in Wyndham?

Who can resist the Pancake Parlour! My partner and I had our first dates at the Werribee Plaza Pancake Parlour.

Do you have a favourite park or another outdoor area in Wyndham?

I take my puppy to the Werribee Off Lead Dog Park, between Presidents Park and the Werribee River. It’s a great social place for my puppy to burn off some energy playing with other dogs. I try to take him at least once a week.

If you had to show someone from outside of Victoria around Wyndham, where would you take them?

I’m sure once my house is built all I am going to want to do is show it off. I am so proud of it and can’t wait to have my own personal library room even with a ladder on rails.

Otherwise the Werribee Plaza is very appealing as it suits all shoppers, kids with toys and everyone loves the 24-hour Kmart.
