Wyndham is one of three Victorian municipalities to have more than 200 active cases of the coronavirus diagnosed in residents, as of today.
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) released the latest Victorian COVID-19 figures this afternoon.
According to the data, Wyndham residents have 209 active cases (compared to 196 active cases yesterday), Hume residents 222 active cases and Melbourne residents 217 active cases.
Victoria has recorded 177 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of active cases now at 3967 across the state.
Within Victoria, 25 of the new cases have been linked to known outbreaks and 151 cases are under investigation.
242 cases have been diagnosed in residents of public housing towers in North Melbourne.
A total of 144 cases have been linked to Al-Taqwa College in Truganina since last month.
Thirteen cases have been linked Glendale Aged Care Facility in Werribee.
Sadly, a 90-year-old male resident from the facility died in hospital on Friday.
Two cases of the virus have been linked to the Linfox Distribution Centre in Truganina.
In addition, Star Weekly understands there are reports that a staff member at Tarneit P-9 College has tested positive for the virus.
A letter sent to school families on July 12, from principal Ryan Adams, said: “The staff member did not attend the school will infectious and DHHs’ investigation of the situation determined the school does not need to close.”
“I can reassure you that we are doing everything we can to ensure the health and safety of our whole school community, and we have followed advice from DHHS and DET on the matter.”
Star Weekly also understands a letter has also been sent from Wyndham council to families from the Featherbrook Kindergarten in Point Cook.
The letter, dated July 9, said that the DHHS has notified the council of two positive cases at the kindergarten.
“Firstly, we have been assured by DHHS that it is highly unlikely that there has been any transmission of the virus, with the last positive case being onsite 25 June,” the letter said.
“The protocols and PPE provisions we have in place means that the virus was not spread.
“Since, all contact tracing has been completed and we have not received any advice that any Kindergarten staff are required to take further action.”
“Because of this, Featherbrook Kindergarten will reopen to families on Monday 13 July.”
On the weekend, police officers from Geelong Highway Patrol watched over the back roads of Werribee, Little River and Lara, intercepting and checking vehicles heading towards Geelong.
A number of motorists breaching the COVID regulations were intercepted, after police obtained their details.
