More homes raided in counter terrorism operation

A Tarneit property was among four raided this morning as a counter terrorism operation continues.

Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation today executed warrants at residential properties in Tarneit, Coolaroo, Glenroy and Berwick as part of Operation San Jose.

The raids follow the arrest of 20-year-old Werribee man Ali Khalif Shire Ali, who was yesterday charged with Acts in Preparation to Commit a Terrorist Attack and Collecting Documents to Facilitate a Terrorist Act.

Ali faced the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where he was remanded in custody until March 13, 2018.

It’s been alleged Ali was involved in undertaking preparations for planning a terrorist act in Melbourne on New Year’s Eve this year.

Police say while the operation is ongoing, the main lines of enquiry have been completed and at this time police do not anticipate further arrests.
