Soccer fans will be able to ask questions, take photos and learn from the experts what it takes to play for Australia when the Young Matildas host an open training session in Werribee.

Local football players aged 12-16 years will have the opportunity to meet the under-20s soccer team, during an open training session on Wednesday, February 15.

Wyndham mayor Susan McIntyre said it is an honour to host the team.

“We are delighted to provide the team with access to first-class training facilities and wish them the best of luck in their upcoming matches,” Councillor McIntyre said.

Active city portfolio holder Peter Maynard said attracting elite levels of football to Wyndham would no doubt help inspire local young footballers.

“It’s a big year for women’s football in Wyndham, with this visit from the CommBank Young Matildas, Western United’s inaugural Liberty A-League season and the added thrill of hosting Africa’s second best team, the Moroccan women’s national team, this winter for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023,” he said.

“I look forward to our young footballers taking heart and being inspired to play at the elite level if that’s their sporting dream.”

The Young Matildas will arrive in Wyndham on February 13 for a 10-day training camp at Galvin Park to prepare for next month’s round one of the under-20s Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.

The training session will kick off from 4-5.30pm, followed by a meet and gree from 5.30-6pm.

Registration for the event is essential.
