Lightning strike closes crossing

A lightning strike has closed Old Geelong Road to traffic in both directions at the Hoppers Crossing level crossing.

Trains on the Werribee line are continuing to operate, with about 20 minute delays. The Department of Transport has asked passengers to allow extra time for their journey and to check the Public Transport Victoria (PTV) mobile app or website before travelling.

Drivers have also been reminded not to drive through closed boom gates, and to detour using Derrimut Road or Forsyth Road.

Traffic lights at the nearby intersection of the Princes Highway and Old Geelong Road have also been affected and are flashing yellow.

Crews are working to resolve the issues. Old Geelong Road will re-open when repairs are completed.

Real-time traffic conditions are available at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au or via the VicTraffic mobile app. The latest public transport information and network status is available at ptv.vic.gov.au or in the PTV mobile app.
