Minister for Health Jill Hennessy has suggested magical toilets and edible worms would make great additions to the Point Cook Library.

Ms Hennessy jokingly made the comments during a speech last Thursday, in which she announced the State Government would provide $750,000 to expand the library.

Students from the Point Cook Community Learning Centre Kindergarten, who attended the event, laughed and applauded during Ms Hennessy’s speech.

“Who thinks the new library should have magic toilets in it?” Ms Hennessy said.

“Who thinks it should have worms for us to eat?”

The Altona MP also told the delighted children that the library was set to get “bigger and better” thanks to the funding.

Wyndham council’s learning city portfolio holder, Cr Josh Gilligan, said the grant would increase the overall size of the library by 230 square metres.

“It will deliver a new silent study space, two group study rooms and a large children’s activity zone,” he said.

The two study rooms will be equipped with projectors and screens.

“Since opening in September 2009, the Point Cook Library has welcomed nearly two million visitors,” Cr Gilligan said.

“As our local community in Point Cook and in surrounding suburbs continues to grow, the demand for the services offered by libraries is also increasing.

“It will ensure that this library is able to cater for the demand this community has for learning.”
