The new seat of Laverton is expected to be represented by Labor’s Sarah Connolly after she defeated nine candidates in the state election.

Ms Connolly secured 10,556 first preference votes (46.50 per cent), Liberal candidate Raja Reddy received 9481 first preference votes (22.42 per cent), Greens candidate Braishna Durzada obtained 2249 first preference votes (9.91 per cent) and Victorian Socialists candidate Catherine Robertson received 1540 first preference votes (6.78 per cent).

On a two party preferred basis, Ms Connolly secured 68.5 per cent of the vote, a total of 14,148 while Mr Reddy amassed 6484 votes, or 31.43 per cent of the vote.

The electorate takes in voters from Laverton North, Truganina, Williams Landing, parts of Laverton and Tarneit and was established following the 2020-21 redistribution of state electoral boundaries, and Ms Connolly, the former Tarneit MP, was shifted to Laverton.

“Thank you Laverton, for the honour and privilege of making me your representative and your voice in the Victorian State Parliament as your new Member for Laverton,” Ms Connolly wrote on Facebook.

“To everyone who voted for me, and those that did not, I won’t let you down.”
