Werribee Secondary College student Jayitaa Ann Sethupathy has been recognised with a Premier’s VCE Award.
The annual awards recognise the outstanding achievements of VCE and VET students in Victoria.
Jayitaa recently received the award for a subject which she completed last year, Chinese Language, Culture and Society (Chinese LCS).
She achieved a study score of 46 out of 50 for the subject.
Jayitaa, who will celebrate her 18th birthday on June 27, is now studying Year 12.
Jayitaa said she felt surprised and grateful to be selected for the VCE award.
“I was totally not expecting it, didn’t even dream of it,” she said.
“There were many aspects of Chinese LCS that were very intriguing to me.
“I especially enjoyed learning about the Chinese economy and practising my oral component which was a detailed study on the history and culture of Chinese lanterns.”
Jayitaa said she would like to thank her teachers, Ms Jia, Ms Cheng and Ms Chao, for helping her throughout the subject.
She credited her teachers for “tirelessly helping me throughout the year and consistently making me work harder and harder to achieve my ultimate best, to have no regrets in the end”.
She also thanked her parents, sister, her sister’s boyfriend Howard and her friends for their support.
Heathdale Christian College student Joshuah Ephraums also received a Premier’s VCE Award for Music Performance (VCE VET).
Werribee MP Tim Pallas congratulated Joshuah and Jayitaa on their “fantastic achievements”.
“Their success is a credit to not only their hard work and abilities, but also to the support of family, friends and our school community,” he said.
