Alexis knows her ABCs.
The grade 5 Bethany Catholic Primary School pupil recently took out the grade 5-6 category in the Wyndham Library Spelling Bee, winning on her correct spelling of spaghetti.
Alexis said she worked hard to learn about 49 pages of words that could be used throughout the competition, with judges also throwing in a few surprises that weren’t part of the list.
“This year, people were more confident in themselves, and the word list was a lot different,” the 10-year-old said.
“I was very proud of myself [when I won], I was dancing.”
Fellow Bethany pupil Marla placed second in the grade 3-4 category.
Deputy principal Gemma Gowland said Bethany Primary hosted an in-school spelling bee to determine the entrants for this year’s competition.
“We’re extremely proud of both girls,” Ms Gowland said.
