Inflating hope for kids

Child protection advocate Bravehearts is calling on communities across Australia to sign up for White Balloon Day on September 11 in support of the 59,000 children sexually harmed every year.

White Balloon Day will be part of Child Protection Week from September 6-12.

It will bring together residents, schools, governments, police, survivors, ambassadors, corporates and organisations to heighten awareness of the importance of protecting children.

Bravehearts founder and chief executive Hetty Johnston said the day was a symbol of hope for the one in five Australian children who would be sexually harmed before they turned 18.

“White Balloon Day is about raising awareness and funds to enable the continued delivery of vital support and prevention programs and giving kids the confidence to come forward and break the silence,” she said.

Money raised helps Bravehearts to educate almost 84,000 children on personal safety.

It also supports thousands of kids and their families with specialist counselling services.
