Hunt for Federation Trail dumpers

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is calling on the community to help trackdown two men who were caught illegally dumping on CCTV in January.

The incident occurred during daylight hours on Friday, January 24 on the Federation Trail in Laverton North.

The two men can be seen dumping rubbish from an Isuzu ute. The EPA told Star Weekly that the vehicle is believed to have fake number plates.

A spokesperson for the EPA said Laverton North is a dumping hotspot and most discard rubbish thinking they won’t be caught.

“Illegal waste dumping is an issue across Victoria and is costing the public millions in clean up costs,” the spokesperson said.

“Dumped materials, especially construction and demolition waste, can harm the environment through a variety of ways including contaminating rain water which then enters our waterway systems.

“EPA believes in the principle of polluter pays.

“When these matters go to court, the penalties can be in the several thousands of dollars as well as the cost of the clean up.

“EPA and your council need your help to find people like the two in the CCTV dumping waste illegally on Federation Trail.

“Illegal dumping is nothing more than people avoiding the cost of legal disposal and leaving the cost with the community.”

To report illegal dumping call 1300 372 842, file a report at www.epa.vic.gov.au. or to your local council.
