Hoppers Crossing fire

The occupant of a house that caught fire in Hoppers Crossing last night managed to escape before emergency services arrived on the scene.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) received several calls from members of the public about smoke coming from the rear of a Virgilia Drive residence.

Fire crews arrived on the scene just after 7.45pm.

Around 30 firefighters, including some in breathing apparatus’, set about extinguishing the fire and protecting the neighbouring properties from heat, flame and smoke.

The occupant who evacuated was assessed by Ambulance Victoria for any injuries.

The fire was deemed under control by 8.30pm although FRV has remained on the scene to ensure the blaze is fully extinguished.

Local power and gas companies also attended to assist FRV.
