A Wyndham council fund which aims to support small businesses is open for applications.

The annual Small Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation Fund has been specifically designed to support young businesses and start-ups within Wyndham.

The program is also for more established businesses which are seeking to scale up or diversify their operations, to grow existing markets or enter new markets.

The fund will allocate a total of $200,000 in funding to eligible businesses, with applications open for grants of either $2000, $5000 or $10,000.

Wyndham’s future focused economy portfolio holder, Cr Mia Shaw, said the fund was building employment opportunities and providing local jobs.

“While the intent of the program is to support businesses, equally important are the flow on impacts of such growth including the creation of new jobs,” Cr Shaw said.

“After the past year we have experienced, grants like these have an even higher importance due to recent economic impacts of COVID-19.”

Businesses which are run by sole proprietors or partnerships without employees can apply, along with businesses which employ five people or less (either fulltime, part time or a combination of fulltime and part time).

To be eligible for funding, the business must have its principal place of business in Wyndham; a current, active ABN; and be compliant with all relevant local, state and federal legislation.

The Small Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation Fund will be open for applications until 5pm, March 29.
