The state government has announced $11,713 in funding to help Wyndham council tackle weeds.
The funding will come from the $11.5 million Victorian Roadside Weeds and Pests Control Program.
Wyndham council is one of the eligible municipalities for the program, as it is responsible for managing almost 100,000 kilometres of rural roadsides.
Weeds like serrated tussock and blackberries cost the Victorian economy over $900 million each year, as they have the potential to spread very quickly resulting in serious negative impacts on agricultural production, as well as contribute to the spread of fires.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas said: “The Andrews Labor Government recognises the challenge that weeds and pests pose to rural and regional communities, and I’m proud that Wyndham city council are being supported in delivering effective and tailored strategies for our region.”
Local Government Victoria and Agriculture Victoria work closely with local councils in ensuring plans to tackle weeds and pests are tailored to their local area and appropriate funding is allocated to fulfil each strategy.
