A Wyndham-based charity will soon close, after eight years of helping families who have lost a child.
Angel Baby Inc’s secretary Tabitha Page said the volunteer-run group would soon wind up its operations due to a lack of funding. She said that since 2009, the charity had supported people who experienced a child death or lost pregnancy.
“We have run events and get-togethers, we have done fundraisers and we have made and sent out keepsake packs to midwives, hospitals and funeral homes which contain tiny gowns, hats, shoes and blankets,” Ms Page said.
“These are given to families who lose their precious children.”
Ms Page said the organisation was originally started by her friend Dana Konski.
As a seamstress who made christening gowns, Ms Konski often talked with parents who buried babies and children who had died. This inspired Ms Konski to start a Facebook support group for families, which grew to become a registered charity.
But Ms Page said Angel Baby had now come to the end of the road.
“Sadly, our charity … is no longer able to find the funds to continue our work,” she said.
She said the group’s five board members had tried applying for various forms of funding, plus fundraising online and at markets, without much success.
“This was not an easy decision for the board to make, but it was one that we had to make,” Ms Page said.
An Angel Baby farewell get-together will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 29, at Logan Reserve in Altona. Attendees are asked to bring a plate of food to share. Inquiries to: support@ourangelbaby.org
