The three State Ministers involved in the Werribee West drainage scheme were entertained by the shire on Thursday at the civic centre. The shire decided to invite the three to thank them for the work they had done to evolve a scheme for the area.

May 13, 1987

 

Werribee MLA Ken Coghill has ordered his opposite member, Werribee Liberal spokesman Cr Peter Hudson, to resign as a councillor or party spokesman because Liberal Party policies are now “in direct conflict with the interests of Werribee”. Dr Coghill said Cr Hudson must decide which hat he wears when it comes to issues affecting Werribee.

Hoppers Crossing’s Senior Constable Timothy Lewczuk will be given a guard of honour and buried with full police honours at the Werribee Lawn Cemetery on Thursday. Hundreds of residents and police are expected to attend the funeral service at the Police Academy, Glen Waverley.

A bitter battle is looming between Wyndham Council and the Geelong Football Club over an application for 90 poker machines at the Cats’ proposed community and sporting club development in Point Cook. As revealed exclusively in the Banner in March, the Cats’ facility – its planned Melbourne base – features a function room, bistro with outdoor dining area, sports bar, cafe, lounge/bar and gaming room.
