Werribee Mercy Hospital’s critical care unit has received a mammoth donation.
The Werribee Hospital Foundation has pledged $400,000 towards the CCU, which is part of an $85 million state government-funded hospital upgrade that will include eight critical care beds, 56 inpatient beds and six operating theatres over four storeys at the northern end of the hospital, above the Catherine McAuley Centre.
The hospital will stand six storeys high once works are complete by mid-2018.
Last month, the Werribee Hospital Foundation and the Mercy Health Foundation created an appeals committee to raise $2 million over the next 18 months to fit-out the new critical care unit.
Foundation chairman Nik Tsardakis said the expansion was vital for the Wyndham community.
“Our community wants access to the very best public hospital care locally and that is reflected in the support and donations we have received over the years,” Mr Tsardakis said.
This donation brings the campaign to its half-way mark, adding to the $600,000 already raised through a raft of community fundraisers, including the Wyndham Business and Tourism Association fashion parade and the Wyndham Rotary fun run.
Via its partnership with Mercy Health, Star Weekly will provide regular appeal updates.
