Crime rises in Wyndham

The number of criminal offences recorded in Wyndham increased by 9.1 per cent last year.

Data released by the Victorian Crime Statistics Agency today shows there were 18,284 offences reported to police in Wyndham during 2020 (compared to 16,761 offences in 2019).

Areas of crime which increased in Wyndham include homicide and related offences (from four to eight offences), drugs crime (from 826 to 994 offences), assaults and related offences (from 1471 to 1664 offences) and sexual offences (from 451 offences to 667 offences).

Crimes which fell include aggravated robberies (from 194 to 127 offences), burglaries and break-and-enters (from 1337 to 943 offences) and theft (from 6311 to 5881 offences).

Out of all the offences recorded in Wyndham last year, 48.3 per cent have resulted in an arrest or summons to court, 33.5 per cent remain unsolved and 15 per cent are classified by a different description.

There were 5211 offences recorded in Werribee, 3116 in Hoppers Crossing, 2681 in Point Cook, 2302 in Tarneit and 1806 in Wyndham Vale.
