Kim McAliney has resigned as a Wyndham councillor.

The decision, which will take immediate effect, was announced at tonight’s Wyndham council meeting.

Ms McAliney has served on the council for 11 years, including two terms as mayor and two as deputy mayor.

Ms McAliney issued a statement today, thanking the many community leaders and groups in Wyndham that she has worked with during her time on council.

“It was an honour to work with so many community-focused, passionate residents and emergency services,” Ms McAlney said in the statement.

“During this period, the City of Wyndham has grown to be one of the leading municipalities in Victoria to develop and showcase strategies to cope with growth at times under difficult financial constraints”.

Ms McAliney also acknowledged the assistance she had received from Wyndham’s executive staff, senior management and other staff during her time on council.

She said that being appointed to the council’s Safer Communities portfolio had been “a great passion” of hers including working on perceptions of safety, family violence, gender equity and work with key social justice stakeholders, as there is a continuing need for the City of Wyndham to maintain a strong focus on these issues.

Cr. Mc Aliney represented Wyndham council on the following committees:

• Audit and Risk Management Committee

• CEO Remuneration Review

• Gender Equity Advisory Committee

• Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee

• Roadsafe Westgate Community Road Safety Council

• Werribee City Centre Safety Committee

• Victorian State Government’s – Detention Community Advisory Group

Ms McAliney said: “Good corporate governance will underpin the success of local government in Victoria in the future, especially in the period of rebuilding our economy locally and on a national basis following COVID19.

“I believe a platform of good governance, transparency and integrity and making decisions on the best outcomes for the residents of Wyndham is a successful foundation in the future of the City of Wyndham.

“I wish the organisation and the Wyndham community great success in the future.”
