Wyndham council is hosting a youth summit to empower and educate young people to take action on climate change next month.
In collaboration with the Climate Futures Youth Leaders’ volunteers, the summit will be held on Saturday, April 1 from 10am to 3pm at the Wunggurrwil Dhurrung Centre in Wyndham Vale, including a panel discussion and workshops.
Panel speakers will include Velisha Farms managing director Catherine Velisha, sustainable energy engineer Amber Troung, senior healthy country project officer Greg Robinson and Aboriginal water officer Dylan Wishart.
Wyndham Climate Futures and Environment portfolio holder and councillor Robert Szatkowski said the workshops will be “highly engaging and interesting”, with topics including recycling and waste, sustainability and biodiversity.
“Through education, young people will be able to get involved and participate in their community and provide creative solutions as they embark on a climate journey,” he said.
The Climate Futures Youth Leaders is a group of empowered young people aged from 16 to 26 advocating for the environment and climate change and providing support in the planning and delivery of events, programs, forums and workshops co-ordinated by Wyndham council’s climate and resilience, waste and youth services teams.
