Young people interested in science and technology are being invited to create a winning formula.

The Young Scientist of Wyndham competition will be decided at the Wyndham Tech School, at Victoria University’s Werribee campus, in September during the Wyndham Learning Festival. The theme of the competition will be ‘Wealth out of waste’.

Students aged between 10 and 18 (in years 7 to 12) who would like to participate have until August 24 to submit their entries.

The competition, which was held for the first time last year, was founded by Tarneit resident Vijisha Venkatram after she attended a Wyndham council leadership program.

Ms Venkatram’s daughter, Anisha, 11, is helping to promote the competition.

“All those who participated in last year’s competition had lots of fun and a lot to learn,” Anisha said.

Young people can enter the contest as individuals or in groups of two. There is a maximum of six entries per school.

Entrants are encouraged to come up with projects that focus on creating a bright future for Wyndham.

Entrants must complete an individual application form via the contest’s website and submit a three-minute video recording about their idea.

A shortlist of entries will be chosen by three judges, with entrants on the list to be notified by August 31.

They will be invited to compete on September 8 by displaying their models or giving a presentation to a judging panel. The judging criteria will be based on innovation, communication, creation and presentation.
