RSL Victoria has asked all Wyndham residents to take a moment to mark the sacrifice and service of defence personnel on Remembrance Day, Wednesday November 11.

Although large-scale events cannot be held due to the pandemic, the RSL’s state president Robert Webster, said it was still important to pay respect to all those who have served in wars and armed conflicts.

“Our message to Victorians this Remembrance Day is ‘Remember to Remember,” Dr Webster said.

“It might sound simple, but for veterans and their families, there is so much emotion tied up in the public act of remembrance and in those three words ‘Lest we forget’.”

Dr Webster said this year also marked the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Werribee RSL Sub Branch president Daryl Ryan said he, a few other RSL members and representatives of local politicians were planning to lay a wreath at the Werribee cenotaph on Wednesday morning.

Mr Ryan said the pandemic had prevented RSL members from selling poppies at locations such as shopping centres in the lead-up to Remembrance Day, but they would be selling poppies while at the cenotaph.

The Werribee RSL Sub Branch at 2A Synnot Street will also be selling poppies from 10am on Wednesday.
