An accident at a “black spot” intersection in Truganina has sparked calls for a roundabout or traffic lights to be installed.
Police are investigating an accident at the Derrimut and Boundary roads intersection about 8am last Wednesday.
Motorists and Wyndham council are calling for immediate action to make the intersection safer.
In the Wyndham mayoral column published in Star Weekly last week, mayor Mia Shaw wrote that the council was aware of “a number of incidents at the intersection”.
She said the council had met with representatives from the Department of Transport (formerly VicRoads) to discuss possible solutions.
More than 130 people also commented on a Facebook post about the latest crash, many calling for a safety upgrade at the intersection.
Kahlee described the intersection as a “black spot”.
Debbie wrote: “This intersection is extremely dangerous & on the average of 2 to 3 accidents a week. Something needs to be done asap before there is a fatality.”
Amanda said: “Something needs to be done and quickly. There is an accident at least once a day.”
Vicki wrote: “Absolutely! Big blind spot, my brother nearly lost his life at this intersection!!”
Julie wrote: “Absolutely it’s scary driving past that corner.”
Cr Shaw’s column said the council had engaged an independent road safety auditor to look at the intersection, as well as others along Boundary Road. The council has also asked the state government to review the road.
“While the upgrade and signalisation of the intersection is the preferred solution to address these safety issues, further funding from the state government is required,” the column stated.
It stated that the council would continue to push for funding to deliver a permanent “signalised solution for this intersection”.
