Cafe a hot chance for business award

Cody’s Cafe at Manor Lakes has gained nationwide fame for offering what could be Australia’s hottest burger – now it’s in the running for a Wyndham Business Awards gong.

Owner Chris Cody opened the business in April, 2011 and set up a Scorpion Burger challenge soon after as a way to get the community talking – and gasping.

The challenge is simple enough: eat an entire 600-gram Scorpion Burger doused in four of the hottest chilli sauces in the world in under 25 minutes, without any sides or drinks until five minutes after completing the meal … and the burger is free. The challenge was picked up by radio and TV stations alike.

The Manor Lakes resident and father of three said he wanted Cody’s Cafe to be the go-to place for before-work coffees, after-school catch-ups, family dinners and everything in between.

“We were new to the area and there was nothing around here – especially Manor Lakes – that catered for any form of dining,” Mr Cody said.

He was thrilled to learn the business had been nominated for the Wyndham Business Award by a customer. “I definitely wasn’t expecting it. To know someone thinks this place is deserving of a nomination is nice.”

Free nominations are now open for this year’s awards, to be presented in 16 categories at an August 26 presentation evening at the Encore Events Centre. Click here for more information or to enter.
