My Wyndham: Ambrose Faure

When Ambrose Faure moved to Wyndham Vale 13 years ago, his house was the fourth to be built on his estate. The 39-year-old and father of three tells Charlene Macaulay about the changes he’s seen in the suburb and his involvement with Werribee Masters Football Club.

What’s your connection to Wyndham?

I’ve lived here for 13 years – we bought a house and land package here. It was the fourth house in the whole estate … it’s [the estate’s] grown immensely. We were living in Yarraville, but got married and wanted to buy a house and get into the market. It’s a good place for the kids – pretty safe. They can ride their bikes out front.

Tell me about your family.

I was at a party and had a few too many [when I met my wife Kristy]. We got talking and ended up catching up the next day and that was it. We were together for five years before we got married and now have three kids – Gemma, Jai and William.

What’s your day job?

I’m a fishmonger with Happy Tuna at Victoria Market. It’s pretty cruisey. It’s a four-day week. I start at 4am and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I finish around 3pm. On Fridays, it’s about 5pm, Saturdays can vary between 4-5pm. I’ve been doing it for the past 20 years. I love the people – you’re not stuck at a desk, you’re talking to people and having a laugh.

You play with Werribee Masters Football Club. What made you join?

I’ve been a member six years. I wanted to find something to do. I play centre-half back or full-back. I play golf, too, but I wanted to be involved in a team sport. I went down there and got into the committee and now I help out with the raffles and other things. We had a Pink Ladies Day event recently and raised more than $3000 for Breast Cancer Network Australia. I’ve also been involved with AusKick for three years. I was the prep and kinder coach for Manorvale AusKick, and I currently coach the under-9s at Wyndham Vale Falcons.

What’s been your favourite sports moment to date?

Seeing my youngest boy, William, get his first goal last year. It was a big confidence boost for him. He was happy and I was happy.

What are some of your other hobbies?

I do a bit of fishing with the kids down at Werribee South. We ride our scooters down the skate park, spending family time together. Plus I love camping. We go to Blackwood, behind Bacchus Marsh, and Trentham, Wombat State Forest. It’s only an hour drive from here. We go any time we can get a chance.

If you could change anything about the area, what would it be?

There aren’t enough high schools around to cater for the local community here any more. Aside from that, I’m pretty happy with the area and all the work that’s been done.
