When NAN Electrical Cable started out in 2013, the business had one employee and operated out of a small office in Port Melbourne.
Four years later, and NAN Cables has moved into a Truganina warehouse that is three times the size of its previous Laverton headquarters, boasts warehouses in Brisbane and Sydney, ships to Perth and employs a sales person in both Adelaide and Tasmania.
The business, which is a subsidiary of Chinese industrial giant Guangdong Nanyang Cable Group Holding, works with electrical wholesalers such as Middy’s and Rexel and recently won a contract with Queensland Energy and supplies to a number of major wind farms.
General manager David Boekee attributes NAN Cable’s success to its 30-plus employees.
“The growth that we’ve achieved so far is down to the staff,” he said.
“We tackle the market on different fronts, with the power utilities, the infrastructure projects and then through the electrical wholesalers.
“One of the things that I always tell everybody is never over-promise and under-deliver – you make sure you keep your promises. If you can’t do it, tell them up-front, it’s basic customer service.”
For the second year running, NAN Cables is a finalist in the distribution category for this year’s Wyndham Business Awards.
Winners will be announced on August 25 at a gala presentation evening at Encore Events Centre.
Tickets are still available for the event, $95 per adult and $40 per child.
