Wyndham council has propsed a new name for the western section of Bulban Road, Werribee.
Due to developments in the suburb, council is required to realign Bulban Road and the existing road will soon be divided by a railway overpass and the Ison Road extension.
As it will no longer be a continuous road, Bulban Road from the intersection of Ison Road will need to be renamed.
Council is proposing the section be renamed ‘Windmill Road’, as windmill is a type of grass native to the area where the road is located and meets the requirement of Principal C of the State Government’s Naming Rules for Places in Victoria 2022, linking name to place.
Under state government naming rules, simply renaming the road to Bulban Road West, or Bulban Road East would be considered a duplicate name, as road names must not put public and operational safety for emergency response at risk, or cause confusion for transport, communication and mail services.
A distinctively different name must be chosen to ensure the two sections of road can easily be identified.
Members of the public can provide feedback on the proposed name online or over the phone until August 31.
